committee, commitment, committed

hi! rob here. this is my first post-- ted's been doing the posting so far. this is not to imply that i have been sitting back idly, eating bonbons and looking through crate & barrel and modern bride catalogues. well, ok. i have been looking through crate & barrel catalogues and, well, ok, i do like bon bons. but i'm also watching my figure because i want to be able to fit into my new wedding suit.

anyway... i just want to let it be known that planning a wedding is a LOT of work. who knew?

the thing that's really scaring me is that there needs to be a COMMITTEE for EVERYTHING!

a food committee, a set up committee, a clean-up committee, a decorating committee, a decorating committee the day before the ceremony and a decorating committee the day OF the wedding. a committee to decorate the ceremony space, a commitee to decorate the reception space and a committee to decorate room #2 of the reception space. so that's what i've been trying to get organized. THE COMMITTEES.

i told my friend david that i need a committee to help me organize the committees! (by the way, david's on the decorating committee).

the wonderful thing about our wedding, though, is that it really is going to be a group effort (well, i'm only marrying ted though). what i mean is that we have such a great collection of creative, energetic, generous, gracious friends who are helping us with various aspects of the wedding-- ceremony and reception.

for example, the other day i was at Galapagos, which is where we are having the ceremony/reception, with my friend Aaron, who is doing flowers and decorations. well, if you've been to Galapagos, you know it is a bar/performance space most evenings. in fact, they often feature up and coming local bands and even have a burlesque show (which my dad was strangely intrigued to learn).

anyway, the night we were there we had to compete with a bongo player accompanying a angsty/folksy female singer/guitarist. that didn't stop aaron from running a tape measure across the stage (yes, during the performance), moving around bar stools, asking patrons to hold one end of the tape measure, and crawling under the bar. (he knows what he's doing folks, he works with martha).

but it's people like aaron and others who are helping to make our wedding so fun and unique and exciting. yes, i'm stressed. yes, i'm freaking out. yes, it's a lot of work and really i want to just be writing my book and eating bon bons. but it's going to be such a great day.

so, in closing, i want to reiterate: if anyone wants to help out with any of the committees-- food, decorating, pre-decorating, clean up, set up, etc. let me know.

if you'd like to commit to a committee i'll make sure you're committed. just say the word!
